• Marijuana has various uses today - it treats patients, people buy it for recreational use, baking cannabis cookies.
  • However, its use in livestock feed is relatively new to America.

DENVER - Colorado breeders could feed livestock with cannabis thanks to a law passed by the state senate on Tuesday.

The state senate voted 34-0 in favor of a law passed to the Colorado Department of Agriculture to study the feasibility of allowing farmers to use cannabis in feed. It is currently prohibited.

In 2014, the federal government began allowing farmers to grow cannabis under certain conditions.

The state of Washington passed a similar law in 2015.

However, farming authorities in the country concluded last month that cannabis could not yet be used safely in poultry feed, and said there was insufficient research on whether THC contained in marijuana would harm birds.

Colorado has about 300 cannabis growers.

The discussion on cannabis measures will now move to the White House.
