Recently, there has been a lot of talk about hemp seeds, especially about their health benefits and potential for use in the kitchen. Just a few teaspoons of hemp seeds contain a large number ofimportant nutrients, and they are easy to consume and can be used in many dishes. In this article you will find out everything you need to know about what these little seeds are used for and how to incorporate them into your diet.

Why eat hemp seeds?

Hemp seeds are small brown seeds that come from the cannabis plant and have a mild nutty flavour. These seeds are considered very nutritious. They are rich in essential amino acids, protein and omega-3 fatty acids. They are a really great addition to the diet, and especially for vegans and vegetarians, they are very beneficial because they contain complete vegetable protein.

How to eat hemp seeds?

Hemp seeds can be added to almost anything to add extra nutrients. They can be eaten whole, without the skin, and add a nice crunch to recipes. However, some people separate them from the skins, then grind them into a powder containing lots of fibre that can then be used in a variety of dishes. But there are other, more creative ways of eating them. Below are some tips on how to use hemp seeds:

  • Sprinkle them on yoghurt or porridge: a healthy, protein-rich breakfast to kick-start your day and give you energy for the morning. Add hemp, pumpkin and chia seeds to your favourite yoghurt and fruit for a tasty and filling breakfast.
  • Add them to salads: add a tablespoon of hemp seeds to any salad to increase its nutritional value.
  • Add them to cakes and buns: hemp seeds can be a great addition to cakes, pastries or even bread. Thanks to their slightly nutty flavour, they can be used instead of nuts in many recipes. You can add them to carrot or banana cake, for example, or to muffins for an extra boost of protein.
  • Add them to a smoothie for a protein boost.
  • Mix them with avocado for a nutritious spread.
  • People with gluten allergies can use hemp seeds as a substitute for breadcrumbs when coating meat or fish.
  • Their pleasant nutty taste also makes hemp seeds a great alternative for people with nut allergies.
  • Hemp seeds can also be used to make hemp oil or hemp protein powder.
  • Hemp seeds are also used to make hemp milk. See below for instructions on how to prepare the milk.

Instructions for making hemp milk

Hemp milk is very creamy and, like almond milk, is a great plant-based alternative to animal milk.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup hemp seeds
  • 3 cups of water
  • špetka soli
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pitted date or maple syrup (optional)

Procedure:

  • Place half a cup of hemp seeds in a blender , add 3 cups of water and a pinch of salt. To sweeten the milk, you can add a little maple syrup, vanilla extract or dried dates, but these ingredients are not necessary.
  • Blend the ingredients until sufficiently combined.
  • Strain the finished liquid to get rid of the pulp and residue, leaving only the milk. Store the milk in the fridge, it will keep for 5-7 days.

Are hemp seeds psychoactive?

Hemp edibles are made from different hemp varieties, which usually do not contain THC (the psychoactive substance that causes the feeling of being high), so they do not have any psychological effects. This means that you can eat as many cannabis seeds as you like and not worry about them making you feel woozy or fail ing adrug test.

Why should we use hemp seeds?

Hemp seeds are very nutritious. They are often referred to as one of the most nutritious vegetarian plant foods because they contain omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids. These unsaturated fatty acids contribute to proper brain and heart function, lower blood cholesterol, reduce inflammation and strengthen the immune system. They also contain fibre, vitamin E, B vitamins and minerals including magnesium and iron. They are therefore a really great addition to the diet and are particularly beneficial for vegans and vegetarians as they are a complex plant protein.
