The three oldest marijuana genetics

The origins of marijuana go back far into the past. Already thousands of years ago, people knew marijuana and used it in many fields, from medicine, through the use of seeds as food, to the production of hemp fiber fabrics. However, the marijuana at that time did not achieve such effects and did not have the characteristics it has today. All this was a question of many years of research. Only in the 1970s the team of breeders managed to create the first quality marijuana calledSkunk # 1. It consisted of three varieties: Columbian Gold, Acapulco Gold and Afgani. It was characterized by good yields, taste and THC content of around 6%. Other varieties are gradually emerging, primarily from Afghanistan and Central America.

So lets get to know how the first feminized, autoflowering and regular seeds came into being.

Feminized seeds

Nowadays it is one of the best-selling types of seeds. These are seeds that are genetically engineered to grow only female plants after sowing and thus eliminate the selection and disposal of male plants. This has praised millions of grower worldwide, which has resulted in significant savings in both time and cost.

The first feminized seeds arise in the 1990s. breeder Henk van Dalen begins to study cannabis plants at different stages of their lives. She discovers that end of life female plants have the ability to produce male flowers. We can call it the mechanism of pa plant that practically forces the plant to produce seeds even in the absence of male plants. Henk tEdy begins with the first attempt to collect "female pollen" and pollinate several female plants. Later, the seeds produced germinate and observe growth. It turns out that all the plants from these seeds are female. And this becomes a historical moment in the field of feminization.

Another challenge was to provide enough pollen. There have been several researches, further improvements and final fine-tuning of results. Todays feminized seeds as we know them are very reliable, consistent, resistant to illness and back mutations. The only disadvantage of feminized seeds is that they cannot be used for mother plants. The cloning of these plants often produces hermaphrodites.

Autoflower seeds

In translation, these are autoflowering seeds. In common seeds, flowering is dependent on the light cycle. Plants produce growth hormones until flowering. Thanks to these hormones, flowering is delayed. Only when the desired length of night is reached, the growth hormone ceases and the plant switches to bloom. The emergence of autoflower seeds meant a great revolution in cultivation. Autoflower plants do not produce hormones that would prevent flowering. It changes to flowering after about 3 weeks germination and blooms for about 50 days. HarvestingSo we can also several times a year in terms of outdoor cultivation.

Autoflowering seeds have a very short history. Low is considered to be the oldest stabilized autoflowering varietyryder. He broke into the market in 2002 with Joint Doctor. Although the variety was characterized by minimal strength and aroma was also not much,nevertheless, he celebrated success because of his ability to autoflow. It is reported that pthe reason is from the Northern Lights, William's Wonder and Mexican Ruderalis varieties.

But in the 1990s Seed Bank Sensi Seeds implemented a project to create a stabilized hybrid that would not depend on the length of day and night. Indeed, the first autoflowering varieties to be marketed were Ruder alis Indica and Ruderalis Skunk. Unfortunately, Sensi Seeds has not seen the real potential and neither of these varieties has been stabilized.

Soon after the creation of Lowryder, Joint Doctor comes with other hybrids. And so, for example, Lowryder# 2who improved the features of the original Lowryder. A few years later, Lowlife seed bank creates a unique hybrid like Automatic AK-47 or Automatic Hindukush, which are finally strengthened by regular plants.

The advantages of these plants include their inconspicuousness due to their smaller growth and the short flowering time already mentioned above. The disadvantage is only less revenue.

Regular seeds

Regular seeds contain X and Y chromosomes. What plant grows, whether male or female depends on who you arethe chromosome will be more dominant in the growth phase. They are particularly suitable for the selection and subsequent cultivation of the best plants from which we make clones by chopping, and so we provide quality seedlings or are grown for seed production.
