Indica cannabis plants are compact with thick buds rich in resin. Indica strains produce flowers richer in sedative terpenes such as myrcene. Cannabis indica genetics have evolved in harsh conditions, in cooler locations and higher altitudes than sativas, often originating from the mountainous regions of Afghanistan and India. These varieties had to finish flowering before the fast-approaching fall, so they ripen earlier. Some medical cannabis users believe that the terpene profiles of sativa vs. indica are slightly different, which could explain the different effects of the varieties. Indica is specific for its low height, broad leaves and dense flowers. Nowadays it is almost impossible to find a pure indica or sativa, most of the current varieties are hybrids of these species.
