Sweet basil essential oil is steam distilled from the delicate, beautifully aromatic leaves of the Ocimum basilicum plant, which grows in the lush Himalayan valleys of India.

Basil oil, also known as "sweet", "true" and "European" basil, is a Linalool chemotype. The Linalool chemotype in particular has been found to be sweeter and considered the safest of all basil varieties for local use. Linalool is the predominant chemical component in this type of basil and gives the oil a cool, subtle woody character. Methyl Chavicol (Estragole), the ingredient responsible for the mild anise-like notes, is also present in a smaller percentage.

Uses of basil oil

Basil essential oil has a wide range of applications, from sharpening the mental state to relieving fatigue. In addition to helping relieve unwanted muscle spasms (anti-inflammatory), basil essential oil is useful for reducing mild pain and inflammation (analgesic). It reduces the presence of unwelcome bacteria or mold growth (antibacterial).
