Pink Pepper essential oil has a bright pepper aroma with a faint floral note, dry woody, slightly smoky undertones - more subdued in aroma and with brighter top notes than Black Pepper essential oil. It is a middle note that can add a beautiful and distinctive characteristic to aromatic formulations. More
Pink pepper(Schinus molle)
Pink pepper oil is steam distilled from the pinkish-red pepper harvested from the Schinus molle tree, native to the Andes Mountains of Peru. Pink pepper, also referred to as Brazilian pepper and Peruvian pepper, is a fast-growing, drought-tolerant evergreen tree that can grow up to 50 feet tall. Pink peppercorns resemble black peppercorns in size, but have a beautiful pinkish-red hue and a delightful spicy-peppery aroma.
The molle, or pink pepper tree, was considered a sacred tree by the ancient Incas. Indigenous people used all parts of the tree, including the pink pepper fruit, as an herbal solution to health needs dating back to pre-Columbian times. The leaves were used in various native healing rituals associated with cleansing, purification and sanctification of peaceful times. The Incas used the outer part of the ripe fruit to make a drink, both fermented and unfermented.
Please note that the aromatherapeutic properties of pink pepper essential oil are not the same as those of black pepper essential oil, and neither should be used as a substitute for the other. Chemically, black pepper oil (Piper nigrum) and pink pepper oil (Schinus molle) are very different: Pink pepper essential oil contains approximately 80 % monoterpenes including a-Phellandrene, Myrcene, Limonene, B-Phellandrene and a-Pinene. In comparison, black pepper essential oil tends to contain only approximately 50-60% monoterpenes.
