If you're new to the cannabis world, you're probably familiar with at least some of the basic cannabinoids. You will have heard of THC, CBD, CBN and CBG. However, there are many other cannabinoids. One of these is H4CBD, or hexahydrocannabidiol. What are its effects? Does it have any side effects? How is it produced and should you try it? In this article, we'll take a closer look at this new cannabinoid.

What is H4CBD?

H4CBD is a new cannabinoid that has entered the cannabis scene. It is a synthetic cannabinoid that was created by adding four hydrogen atoms to the CBD molecule . H4CBD is essentially a hydrogenated version of CBD.

H4CBD does not occur naturally in cannabis plants. It is a laboratory or semi-synthetically produced derivative of CBD. Its production is comparable to the production of margarine from oil. In the production process, chemists use CBD molecules extracted from hemp and combine them with hydrogen atoms. Technically, H4CBD is a semi-synthetic substance because it is produced in a laboratory and its production requires specific procedures.

What are the effects of H4CBD?

There are not many studies that provide definitive answers as to what the effects and benefits of H4CBD are. However, the limited information available on this cannabinoid suggests that it has a significantly higher ability to bind to CB1 neuroreceptors in the brain than CBD. Although more research is needed, it is believed that H4CBD is up to 100 times more potent than regular CBD in several specific areas. Its effects are similar to those of HHC, but H4CBD does not have a double bond. Users of H4CBD describe their experience with this cannabinoid as comparing its effects to CBD, but also report that H4CBD is psychoactive.

H4CBD vs. CBD

H4CBD and regular CBD have a lot in common, but they are not the same molecule. Both cannabinoids have some similar properties, but they also differ in several ways. Below are a few areas in which these substances can be compared.

Method of production

The first major difference between H4CBD and CBD is that H4CBD is a synthetic substance. CBD, on the other hand, is a natural substance derived from hemp. Since the chemical structure of H4CBD has been modified by the addition of extra hydrogen atoms, it cannot be considered natural.

Chemical structure

H4CBD has a different structure to CBD. H4CBD is formed by adding four hydrogen atoms to the main part of the CBD molecule.

Effects

The two cannabinoids have completely different effects. Only one 2006 study reported that hydrogenated forms of CBD have extremely high binding to CB1 neuroreceptors in the brain. This has led to speculation that H4CBD may have up to 100 times stronger effects than CBD.

However, it is important to note that no new studies have been conducted since then looking at the biological activity of H4CBD.

H4CBD, unlike regular CBD, is considered to be a psychoactive substance. For many people, CBD has the advantage of being completely non-addictive, but at the same time providing many positive effects.

Legality

The legal status of synthetic and natural cannabinoids is currently the subject of much debate. Currently, H4CBD is not included in the list of permitted addictive substances according to Government Regulation No. 463/2013 Coll. on the lists of addictive substances.

Availability

Currently, CBD is the most readily available cannabinoid in both bricks-and-mortar stores and e-shops, but as demand for H4CBD grows, there will certainly be a wider range of products made from the substance. As H4CBD is not exactly common at the moment, it is not readily available either and is likely to be hard to find.

Side effects of H4CBD

At the moment, the possible side effects of H4CBD are fairly unclear because there is a lack of research in this area. However, it can be assumed that since H4CBD acts as a combination of CBD and THC, adverse side effects may apply to both cannabinoids. Therefore, it is safe to assume that you may experience fatigue, red and itchy eyes, dry mouth, headaches, nausea, and stomach and intestinal upset.

Is H4CBD worth a try?

H4CBD is a very new substance and there is really little information about it. So if you want to stick to the classic method of using cannabis to help alleviate various health problems, then you'd better opt for CBD. However, if you want to bring something new into your life , H4CBD and its unique effects may be the right choice. If you want to try this cannabinoid, we recommend that you consult your doctor.
