Cannabis Bialobrzeskie

Cannabis, with its more than thousand-year-old tradition, evokes different feelings in many people, often dividing society into two camps with opposing views. Much has been written about this plant, but with its growing popularity, naturally, the need to know more is increasing. In today's article, we'll take a closer look at one specific cannabis variety, namely Cannabis Bialobrzeskie from Poland. How does it differ from other types? In what areas does it dominate?

Cannabis: Basic Information

Cannabis Sativa, or hemp, originates in Asia and is an annual plant belonging to the Cannabaceae genus. Basic classification ranks cannabis into 3 main groups – Hemp (Cannabis sativa), Indian Hemp (Cannabis indica) and Ruderalis Hemp (Cannabis Ruderalis). Due to its fibrous stems, the plant was used in ancient times for textile, rope, and net production. Even before its medicinal effects were known. Thousands of years ago, cannabis was the most frequently prescribed medicine, finding use especially in treating fatigue, malaria, or rheumatism.

In industry, cannabis is often used for processing fibers, paper, ropes, building materials, textiles, or clothing. It has also become a major competitor to cotton, as it is a stronger material that can better resist the test of time and mold. Cannabis is also a unique source of nutrients for foods like hemp seeds, oil, or milk. The healing effects of cannabinoids in medical cannabis have been of interest for a few years. It has gained popularity, especially the cannabinoid known as cannabidiol or CBD. As a few examples of therapeutic uses of cannabis, we would like to mention alleviating depressive states, anxiety, fighting insomnia, chronic pain, excessive stress, convulsions, mental disorders, addictions, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, Crohn's disease and many others. As time passes, new information about the usability of cannabis continues to emerge.

Technical Hemp

In most EU countries, around 40 different varieties of technical hemp are permitted, which are specially bred for their low content of the intoxicating cannabinoid – THC. More precisely, the highest possible level of this substance is set at 0.3%. The plants are relatively undemanding and do not require any special care. Undeniable advantages include versatile use, and without exaggeration, cannabis could replace all fossil sources. It's no problem to produce motor fuel, construction material for car production, building material for constructing objects, or textiles from it. When you add its healing properties, you begin to understand why it is often nicknamed the "plant of the future". We know quite a few technical hemp varieties – for example, we can mention Finola or Carmagnola, but today we'll focus on one specific type, namely Bialobrzeskie.

Bialobrzeskie Hemp

This Polish variety of hemp is widely cultivated especially in Central Europe, having been bred precisely for the temperate zone conditions found here. It is described as monoecious, as both male and female flowers can be present on one plant. In terms of size, it belongs to medium-sized plants – depending on soil type and climatic conditions, reaching a height of 1.2–2.5 meters. Vegetation period is controlled by photoperiod, i.e., length of daylight.
