CBD Legality in Slovakia

For a very long time, Slovakia was a country where medical cannabis had no legal place. However, hope emerged on August 21, 2019, when the Slovak government decided to remove cannabidiol CBD from the list of narcotic and psychotropic substances. What is the situation now? Did it really happen and was there any change?

First, a few words about the origin, use, and effects of CBD

CBD is mainly obtained from industrial hemp plants. These are characterized by a high content of CBD cannabinoid, while containing the illegal THC compound only in quantities tolerated by the EU, up to 0.2% of its content. Hemp plants have long been known to be truly versatile and their use in everyday life knows no bounds. In the past, it was used to produce various textile fibers and paper. Today, this use of industrial hemp has been pushed even further, and it is now possible to produce a special type of plastic from these plants (more about hemp use can be found here). Another category includes hemp foods, such as hemp proteins or peeled hemp seeds intended for direct consumption. And last but not least, there are dietary supplements - CBD oils and tinctures.

CBD has therapeutic and relaxation properties and can help alleviate both mental and physical difficulties. So far, no negative side effects have been discovered associated with medical cannabis use.
