Coffee shop vs. cannabis dispensary: How do they differ?
What are Coffee Shops?

Coffee shops are a Dutch unique feature and one of the biggest tourist attractions in the Netherlands. In the 1970s, the Dutch government introduced new legislation that decriminalized the sale, purchase, possession, and consumption of cannabis. As a result, the now world-famous Dutch coffee shops gradually emerged.
These establishments offer typical café goods like coffee, pastries, and sandwiches. Additionally, cannabis and cannabis products are sold in these establishments.
Most Amsterdam coffee shops are located in the Red Light District and are primarily aimed at tourists. They are typically characterized by signs with green and white text. However, in more remote parts of the city, it is possible to find other hidden coffee shops that are somewhat more affordable.
Remember that Dutch coffee shops fall into a so-called gray area, where buying and consuming marijuana are legal, but you cannot bring your own and cannot leave with it. Technically, the sale and consumption of marijuana are illegal in the Netherlands. Coffee shops own a license that allows them to operate in this area.
Coffee shops are thus cafés with a license allowing the sale of cannabis and cannabis products. In the Netherlands, you will not find a cannabis dispensary that sells cannabis without food and drinks.
What are Cannabis Dispensaries?

Cannabis dispensaries emerged in American culture based on the legalization of this plant in several American states. In the USA, dispensaries are regulated by local governments and may sell a specified amount of cannabis products according to local laws. Cannabis dispensaries are stores that exist exclusively for the purpose of selling cannabis and cannabis products. These stores are licensed for this purpose.
The specific definition of dispensaries in the law and their method of operation varies by state. Some may only sell cannabis to persons with a medical certificate, while others may sell cannabis to anyone who has reached the specified age.
Compared to Dutch coffee shops, however, dispensaries have several different regulations and a different product offering. In American cannabis dispensaries, you will find a wide range of cannabis products, including oils, capsules, tinctures, edibles, and lots of dried flowers. The main difference between dispensaries and coffee shops is that dispensaries do not allow cannabis consumption on-site, while coffee shops do.
