Does More CBD Work Better? (A Scientific Perspective on Proper CBD Dosing for Anxiety and Other Conditions)

  • CBD acts on various receptor areas in the body
  • CBD cannabinoids can be used against various conditions like epilepsy, and mental disorders such as stress and anxiety
  • For effective treatment, however, it is necessary to know the correct dosage suitable for each individual disorder

In 2015, the National Institute of Health and Research of the United States spent 21.2 million dollars out of a total budget of 111 million dollars, allocated for research on cannabinoids and their potential therapeutic effects. Projects funded by these grants focus on all possible modifications of the body's endocannabinoid system and endocannabinoids, or by using plant phytocannabinoids.

While the primary phytocannabinoid delta-9-THC is already widely recognized for its therapeutic effects, secondary CBD is beginning to penetrate an increasingly larger number of medical spheres and potential uses. In recognition of CBD's promising therapeutic effects, the National Institute of Health decided to allocate 9 million dollars exclusively for CBD research.

Most of this research is focused on potential treatment of epilepsy, especially the severely treatable, childhood form of epilepsy. Current studies point to the enormous potential of CBD in these cases. A daily dose of 600mg CBD in children reduced seizure frequencies by an average of 39%. However, this is a higher dose than what can be observed in most available CBD products. These products usually claim to help with anxiety, pain, inflammation, and other conditions.

So why not significantly increase the CBD dosage, for example, in application against anxiety? If a little works, more will definitely work better, right? However, as it turns out, the answer here is no, you will not achieve a better effect of CBD by increasing the dosage. With CBD, it is necessary to maintain a certain dosage range specific to the condition you want to treat with this cannabinoid. It is necessary to find a golden middle way where CBD is not applied too much, nor too little.

"For example, CBD against stress and anxiety works effectively even in small doses. In contrast, CBD against epilepsy requires significantly stronger dosing."
