Hemp Oil Against Huntington's Disease
- In today's article, we'll look at the case of Erin, a woman suffering from Huntington's disease, which her mother is treating with hemp oil
Huntington's disease is a grim, fatal illness. Despite being less discussed and known compared to the more familiar Multiple Sclerosis, it is an equally terrible, life-transforming condition.
Paul Wallis on Digital Journal describes the case of young Erin Wade, a young woman from Ottawa, unfortunately affected by Huntington's disease: "Young Erin smiled, stood up and greeted. Seemingly normal behavior, but for Erin, a complex achievement and enormous success. Due to Huntington's disease, Erin is almost immobile for most of the day, and everyday activities become superhuman tasks."
During the course of the disease, in addition to significant mobility limitations, there are also seizures, problems with food intake, which leads to a range of related issues. And as if that weren't enough, commonly prescribed pharmaceutical treatments do not significantly help Erin.
The following excerpt from the Huntington Society of Canada quite captures the current situation around this disease:
"...there are currently no sufficiently effective therapeutic methods that could stop or even slow the progression of this disease. Only medications capable of reducing acute symptoms are currently available. However, the results of recent research on new substances look very promising, and we can expect to be able to provide higher quality and more effective medications in the near future."
Notice the phrase "capable of reducing acute symptoms". "Capable of reducing" means at best helping people like Erin endure their daily reality, but can hardly be considered treatment. At the moment when parents or caregivers of people like Erin realize that the current medical system unfortunately cannot provide effective help, they begin to look for alternative treatment options, such as hemp oil.
Hemp oil is an extremely important treatment option
"Hemp oil can restore movement to people suffering from Huntington's! It can reverse the pathology of this brutal, merciless disease, and therefore I believe this treatment option is extremely important and should definitely be more accessible," Paul Wallis further explains.
Hemp oil is currently still known as an effective help against chronic pain or multiple sclerosis. Certainly not known as help for restoring motor abilities. Moreover, we certainly cannot talk about any theater here: Erin has been suffering from Huntington's since she was 17 and her condition is currently in a very advanced stage. People with Huntington's simply cannot pretend they suddenly feel better.
