Landrace hemp strains

What do we understand by landrace strains? These are strains that have not had their original genetics crossed with modern strains at all. It is an ancient strain, and people have used it as a multi-purpose medicine known for centuries. However, this is not the only unique characteristic of landrace strains.

What are landrace strains?

Cannabis landrace strains have always been considered special. Even though some growers had them in their collection, they were given a different place. They are unique because they developed over several thousand years and managed to adapt to various conditions. Landrace strains form the genetic basis of today's modern hybrid cannabis strains. It is impossible to say exactly how many landrace strains currently exist, but we know that there are certainly landrace sativa, landrace indica, and also landrace ruderalis. We'll tell you more about them below.

Interesting Facts About Landrace Strains

Landrace strains do not appear very often in cannabis seed offerings. This is because they are mostly purchased by experienced growers with demanding requirements for their seeds. These landrace genetics seeds are accompanied by specific growth requirements, and therefore many growers are not interested in them. However, these are very significant strains that are interesting for example because:

  • It is not known exactly how many landrace strains actually exist
  • Many landrace strains have their genetic origin in their name (Durban Poison, Afghani Kush)
  • Landrace strains can be found in the wild
  • Growers consider landrace cannabis strains better than modern strains
  • Ruderalis landrace strains have the lowest THC levels

Landrace Sativa Cannabis Strains

These strains most often developed in warm conditions and in atypical environments, such as tropical jungle. Their origin dates back to Asia or North Africa. Overall, they thrive better in warm and sunny conditions. Under such circumstances, they have higher growth and spread more in width. The original landrace cannabis seeds include strains such as: Acapulco Gold from Mexico, Durban Poison from Africa, Panama Red, or Thai & Chocolate from Asia.

Landrace Indica Cannabis Strains

Landrace indica are the opposite of landrace sativa. They developed in high-altitude conditions in countries like Nepal, Pakistan, and India. They practically grew only in environments with cold weather, which is why their growth is stunted and more compact than landrace sativa. Landrace indica strains also produce more resin than sativa strains. They flower faster, usually within 7-8 weeks. Landrace indica cannabis was most talked about in the hippie era, when travelers brought seeds back from all over the world. Original landrace indica strains include: Mazar, Lashkar Gah, Afghani...

Landrace Ruderalis Cannabis Strains

The third landrace strain is ruderalis. It is characterized by low growth, with a maximum height of 0.5 to 1m. These strains are more often found in harsher vegetation conditions and even thrive in Siberia. These strains are exceptional because their flowering depends on age, not light conditions. This represents a significant advantage because some light cycles in outdoor environments can be quite different, and daylight can be available for up to 20 hours. This "trick" was later used for the genetic basis of autoflowering seeds. Landrace ruderalis strains have low THC content.

Landrace strains are primarily strains that attract growers' attention. Not only do they have a long history, but they are also the basis for many current cannabis strains. However, those who prefer less demanding strains and those that are commonly grown can check out our cannabis seed offering.
