Northern Lights - Most Crossed Model

No other Indian hemp variety has achieved such recognition and fame as the hemp variety of Afghan origin "Northern Lights" - polar aurora. In the following article, we will attempt to introduce you to the history of the original generation of the "Northern Lights" variety, which bore characteristics of purely Indian hemp. Later generations of this type, which celebrated worldwide success, were created by combining hemp sativa imported from Thailand. This genetic share of sativa and Indian hemp is likely responsible for the very fruity taste with almost psychedelic effects. The fact remains that this variety is still very popular among modern global hemp cultivators.

NL History

Seeds of the original variety "Northern Lights" probably arrived in the Netherlands from the Northwest of the United States around 1985 and went directly into the hands of a certain Mr. Neville, who owned the first seed bank in Holland. This company was later renamed and became known to the public under the name Sensi Seeds. Mr. Neville no longer stands at the head of Sensi Seeds.
According to the most credible sources, the first variety "Northern Lights" was grown by a man known by the nickname Indian near Seattle, in the United States of America. Another theory suggests that the variety was bred in California and then came into the hands of this mysterious man from Seattle, who later handed it over to Mr. Neville in Holland. Unfortunately, there is no convincing evidence for either of these theories.

Northern lights from sensi are among the best

Apparently, at the beginning of the discovery of this new genetics, there were eleven clones that the Indian handed over to Mr. Neville and were marked only with numbers 1 to 11. "Northern Lights" with designations #1 and #5 surprised with their excellent results and were apparently the best. The original pedigree of the "Northern Lights" variety was 100% an Indian hemp variety cultivated in Afghanistan. The entire plants were very dark green, and the rich inflorescence was colored in a dark purple shade. The flowers of this variety also created a large amount of hemp resin with a truly high percentage of THC (more than 15%).

Perhaps it is just a legend, but it is said that all "Northern Lights" clones that Mr. Neville Schoenmaker received from the mysterious donor were female. At this point, the history becomes somewhat blurred. How exactly new seeds were created becomes somewhat unclear to readers. It seems that Mr. Neville Schoenmaker used the clones he received and created hybrids using other male plant strains. The male plants he used for crossing were also never properly labeled. Their origin remains unclear to this day.
We believe that Mr. Neville likely bred new seeds by crossing female "Northern Lights" clones with very close relatives of these plants. It is possible that he obtained male genetics probably also from the mysterious Indian. The first generation "Northern Lights" was later described as a hybrid of a very closely related Afghan hemp species, which essentially means it did not contain any of the Thai hemp sativa varieties used later to obtain some of the new generation pedigrees. However, the exact time frame of crossing with Thai hemp cannot be precisely determined.

Further Northern Lights Generations

Over time, both male representatives of the "Northern Lights" genus produced several strong and very popular exotic hybrids. Their partners were highly respected female representatives such as "G-13", "Big Bud", "Skunk # 1", "Hash Plant", "Herpes" or "Swazi". Or for example, the auto-flowering variety "Four-Way" is also a quarter hybrid from the "Northern Lights" genetic line (although it contains more percentage of ruderalis hemp).

Although the original generation of "Northern Lights" is one of many Cannabis Cup contest winners, it no longer almost exists in the hemp seed market. Newer generations are still available on the world market, for example, from Sensi Seeds. The most notable varieties of this strain are currently "Northern Lights # 5 x Haze", "Northern Lights # 5 x Skunk # 1" or "Shiva Skunk", "Silver Pearl" and, last but not least, the very popular "Jack Herer". The famous "Jack Herer" was bred from three of the most important building blocks of modern hemp complexes: "Northern Lights", "Skunk" and "Haze".

NL 5 is very resistant and high-yielding.

Polar Aurora Seeds of New Generation

There are several other sellers offering high-quality hybrids of the polar aurora variety. One of the most recognized is "Northern Lights # 5" from the British company called Seed Columbia. Their plant may originate from the original genetics of "Northern Lights # 5 x Northern Lights # 2" bred by Mr. Neville himself from Holland. Companies Dr. Atomic, Joey Weed, Reeferman, and many other seed banks offer additional selected versions of "Northern Lights". The sweet and famous "Pink Grapefruit", created by grower Steve, whom you could read about in the previous article about the "Blueberry" pedigree, is also allegedly an old school origin from the "Northern Lights # 1". World-renowned varieties "Chronic" and "AK-47" also contain some elements of the original "Northern Lights" generation.

Hemp varieties containing a certain percentage of the "Northern Lights" genetic line are in most cases very popular and very suitable for all growers. Choose from a wide range of different models suitable for both indoor and outdoor cultivation. The "Northern Lights" variety played a very important role in crossing and breeding many variations of modern hemp, in which it permanently anchored its genetic line.
