(STUDY 2019) - Autism Treatment with Cannabis: Safety and Effectiveness Analysis
- Parents of autistic children are increasingly interested in new treatment options, especially natural substances from cannabis such as THC and CBD
- New research from Israel brings interesting results and encourages scientists to conduct further research
Autism: Cannabis as a Possible Natural Medicine?
In recent years, a dramatic increase in the number of children diagnosed with autism has been observed worldwide.
Autism has also become a natural target for unprofessional, amateur attempts at treatment with cannabis, along with unofficial reports spreading around the world and the internet about cannabis helping with autism.
However, unofficial evidence and rumors from anonymous parents are not enough to form a definitive opinion on treating autism with cannabis.
Let's look at a recent official study by Israeli researchers, including absolute top experts in medical cannabis research – Raphael Mechoulam, Lihi Bar-Lev Schleider, Naama Saban, and Victor Novack.
They attempted to characterize the epidemiology of patients with autism who were administered cannabis for treatment.

Cannabis and Autism Study: Number of Patients and Substance Ratios (THC & CBD)
During the official Israeli study, a total of 188 patients with autism were analyzed, who were administered cannabis from 2015 to 2017.
The vast majority of patients were treated with cannabis oil composed of 30% CBD and 1.5% THC.
The main factors for measuring the final success and effectiveness of treatment were:
- Number of symptoms
- Assessment of the patient's overall condition
- Side effects after 6 months of cannabis treatment
All results were grouped at the end of the study using carefully structured questionnaires.
