Types of Indoor Lighting
Light is a crucial element in cannabis cultivation, especially for smaller indoor varieties. In tropical South American countries where cannabis thrives, there is abundant sunlight. How can you provide the right lighting for indoor cannabis cultivation? We'll explain that today...
The right type of lighting and its duration can also extend the vegetative phase of indoor cannabis strains. This is particularly useful in our temperate zone, where sunlight is not as intense and the vegetation period is not very long. Therefore, optimal conditions are simulated when growing marijuana indoors.
Light Source Properties and Their Influence on Cannabis Plants
Each light source has a different wavelength (measured in nanometers – nm), color (Kelvin – K), and intensity (Lumens - lm). Lighting also generates heat, so proper space ventilation must be considered.
Some light types are better for cannabis growth, some for its flowering. The difference also depends on whether you want to light a small or large space. Plant growth is influenced by light color spectrum and the day/night cycle length.
With insufficient lighting, the plant believes the year is ending and begins flowering prematurely. Therefore, it's best to provide much more light during the first 5-6 months of growth. The longer the plant grows, the larger it will become, and the ratio of cannabinoids, terpenes and other substances will be of higher quality.
