What impact does CBD have on the brain and memory?

Memory problems typically come with age, and unfortunately will likely affect all of us. Year after year, new study results emerge that now consider alternative treatment methods and the power of certain natural substances, such as compounds found in medicinal cannabis. Today we will focus exclusively on cannabidiol, or CBD. Let's dive in.

CBD's Effect on Brain Function

The key properties that neurology appreciates in CBD are its strong anti-inflammatory effect combined with the ability to protect nerve cells, known as the neuroprotective effect. As stated in a study published in PLoS One, these 2 aspects make CBD a substance with truly excellent potential for alternative supportive treatment methods to improve brain function.

Another study from 2013 focused directly on the resulting effect of cannabis use and its impact on memory function. The study's conclusion states that cannabis strains rich in CBD could have anxiolytic and antipsychotic effects. In other words, they could prevent the onset of anxiety, or help alleviate it, as well as reduce psychotic states. A major plus from this study is that CBD did not worsen cognitive function for any of the participants.

There are many positives to the CBD cannabinoid, but one fundamental aspect is its non-psychoactive effect, which means the user does not become intoxicated. Their behavior, perception, or ability to think rationally does not change. Research has not yet proven any specific side effects directly linked to this natural cannabis compound.
