Modern Cannabis Treatment: What Substances Does Cannabis Contain?

Medical cannabis can function as a very good complement to traditional medication treatment. However, it is always necessary to consult with your attending physician. Nevertheless, cannabinoids used in medicine primarily have calming effects and are not psychoactive - they do not cause unpleasant and notorious feelings of lethargy.

They have very good results in treating both psychological (depressive states, anxiety, fear, epilepsy, schizophrenia, etc.), and physical problems (muscle tension and cramps, joint, muscle, and head pain, rheumatism, digestive issues, and overall body harmonization).

However, not only cannabinoids are behind these effects, which we will discuss in more detail shortly. Medical cannabis truly has a rich chemical profile and contains numerous other compounds, such as terpenoids, flavonoids, amino acids, proteins, sugars, enzymes, and fatty acids.

The leading Czech specialist in medicinal cannabis, Doc. RNDr. Lumír Ondřej Hanuš said: "There are over a thousand known substances in cannabis. In my opinion, cannabinoids, cannabinoid acids, terpenes, terpenoids, flavonoids, flavonoid glycosides, polyphenols, and other bioactive substances are important in treatment." We will examine some of these substances in today's article.

As we have already suggested, substances in cannabis show even more favorable effects when they complement each other. Especially terpenes, cannabinoids, and flavonoids, which complement each other and enhance the overall positive effects of medical cannabis, not just on the human organism. Thanks to this connection, it could:

  • increase the ability of substances to influence more targets in the body

  • improve the absorption of active substances

  • minimize undesirable side effects (No specific side effects have been found so far, only general ones - diarrhea, nausea, headache. The effects of medical cannabis vary from user to user.)
