Anatomy of the Cannabis Plant - from Seed to Trichomes
Male vs Female Hemp Plants
Most growers are only interested in cultivating female plants. They produce resin-soaked buds that are so widely used and popular.
Many self-growers rely on feminized or autoflowering seeds. These lead to the creation of more than 95% of female hemp plants.
Male plants are slimmer and mature about a month earlier, while female plants are shorter and produce well-known sessile flowers full of calyxes, pistils and other female plant parts.
Isolation of Male and Female Plants
Male plants produce pollen from stemmed male flowers (looking like a miniature bunch) and are usually isolated to reduce any chance of pollinating female plants (pollination would lead to seed formation, not resinous buds).
By isolating males, female plants have the opportunity to grow to much greater heights.
Without pollination, the female plant has more energy that can be directed to producing higher levels of THC and CBD.
